USB Connection Troubleshooting

We occasionally run into people who are unable to get Eyeware Beam to function via a USB connection.

These are the actions we recommend you take to figure out what’s causing the problem.

Reinstall the Eyeware Beam PC software:

  1. Quit the Eyeware Beam PC software.
  2. Uninstall Eyeware Beam PC software.
  3. Delete the Eyeware folder located here: C:\Users\[your_username]\.Eyeware (please make sure to choose the folder with the username you are currently logged in with).
  4. Install Eyeware Beam PC software.
  5. Restart the Eyeware Beam iOS application.

Make sure you have installed and opened the latest iTunes version:

  1. Download & open iTunes for Windows. The USB connection does not work without iTunes installed on your PC.
  2. Plug your iOS device into your computer.
  3. Start Beam.

Make sure you have an iPhone or iPad model that support Face ID:

Restart the PC:

  1. Click on the “Start” button
  2. Click on the ‘’Shutdown’’ button
  3. Click on “Restart”

Unplug Your PC from the Power Source:

  1. Shut down your PC.
  2. Unplug the power cable from the electrical socket.
  3. Leave the PC unplugged for up to five minutes.
  4. Plug the power cable back into the electrical socket.
  5. Check if the PC detects and recognizes the USB device.

If you are experiencing the “USB Device not recognized” error only occasionally use the steps below to pinpoint the issue:

  1. Connect your iOS device to your PC using a different USB cable.
  2. Connect your iOS device to a different PC.
  3. Connect a different iOS device to your PC.

After finding the issue please follow one of the solutions described below.

Windows Update:

1. Click on the "Start button"

2. Click on the “Settings button”

3. Click on the “Update & security” option

4. If your PC is not up to date Click on Check for updates

5. When ready, install the updates.

6. Restart your PC.

Update your USB drivers:

1. Right-click the Start Menu icon (Windows logo)at the bottom-left of your PC's screen

2. Select Device Manager from the Quick Access menu

3. Expand the “Universal Serial Bus controllers”

4. Right-click on any of the drivers labeled 'USB Root Hub' and select Update driver

5. Select “Update Driver”

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for all the ‘USB Root Hub’ drivers on your device.

If your PC determines that you already have the best driver version installed on your device follow the steps below.

 

Modify USB driver power management settings:

1. Right-click the Start Menu icon (Windows logo) at the bottom-left of your PC's screen

2. Select Device Manager from the Quick Access menu

3. Expand the “Universal Serial Bus controllers"

4. Double-click on any of the drivers labeled “USB Root Hub”

5. Navigate to the Power Management tab

6. Toggle off the “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” option.

7. Click OK to proceed

8. Repeat steps 5 – 6 – 7 for all the ‘USB Root Hub’ drivers in your PC’s Device Manager.

Disable USB selective suspend settings:

1. Right-click the Start Menu icon (Windows logo) at the bottom-left of your PC's screen

2. Select Power Options from the Quick Access menu

3. Scroll to the Related settings section and click “Additional power settings”

4. Click the “Change plan settings” option that's next to your PC's current power plan.

5. Click on “Change advanced power settings”

6. Double-click on “USB Settings”

7. Double-click on “USB selective suspend setting”

8. Click the option next to “On battery”

9. Select Disabled from the drop-down list

10. Click on the option next to “Plugged in”

11. Select Disabled from the drop-down list

12. Click Apply and then OK to save the changes

If you are still experiencing issues with the USB connection follow the steps below.

 

Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service:

  1. Quit iTunes and disconnect any iOS that’s currently connected.

2. Click on the “Start” button

3. Scroll down and click on “Windows System”

4. Click on “Run”

5. Type “services.msc” and click Ok

6. Right-click on “Apple Mobile Device Service”

7. Click on “Properties”

8. Set the Startup type pop-up menu to Automatic

9. Click on “Stop” under Service status

10. After the service has stopped, click on “Start”

11. Click Apply and then OK to save the changes

12. Restart your PC.

13. Open iTunes and connect the device.

Update the Apple USB driver:

 

  1. Unplug your device from your computer.

  2. Unlock your iOS device and go to the Home screen.

  3. Plug in your device (Quit iTunes if it opens).

4. Right-click the Start Menu icon (Windows logo) at the bottom-left of your PC's screen

5. Select Device Manager from the Quick Access menu

6. Expand the Portable Devices section

7. Right-click on the device name

8. Click on “Update driver”

9. Launch iTunes and attempt to connect your device using your USB cable.
